An editorial rant for every expecting parent being played by viral nonsense

Let’s be brutally honest here: You’re pregnant, vulnerable, hormonal, and probably Googling stuff at 3AM with one eye open and one hand on your bump. You're trying to be a good parent. And boom—there it is.

“This miracle jelly made my womb healthier in 7 days!” A TikTok influencer twirls in soft lighting, showing off her glowing skin and flat belly, captioned:“KKM tak lulus lagi, tapi memang berkesan ”

Excuse me… what?

Welcome to the World of Viral Vultures

We’re living in an age where your uterus apparently can’t function unless it’s got the approval of some self-declared health guru with a ring light and affiliate code.

What used to be consult your doctor has turned into: “Wait, let me check if that girl who sells placenta gummies on Instagram recommends it.”

Let’s call it what it is: a circus. And you and your baby’s health? You’re the main act.

The Anatomy of a Viral Lie

These aren’t just silly trends. They’re deliberate sales tactics, preying on your fears and FOMO. Here’s how they work:

  1. Step 1: Create panic

“Your womb might not be clean.” (Oh no—has my womb been out here living in filth all this time?)

  2. Step 2: Add a pseudo-medical term

“Contains phytoestrogen detox peptides” (Wow. That sounds...sciency. Totally buying it.)

  3. Step 3: Flash a ‘Before & After’

Before: bloated. After: filter, ring light, and a waist trainer.

  4. Step 4: Seal the deal

“Thousands sold! 5-star reviews! Not KKM approved yet but ramai dah cuba!”

And here’s the kicker: No clinical data. No regulation. No real accountability.

Let’s Talk About KKM

That little logo you’re supposed to see? KKM = Ministry of Health Malaysia. If a product makes any health claim (especially about pregnancy, fertility, or babies), it must be approved by KKM before being sold.

But guess what? Tons of influencers and online sellers just... skip that part.

Instead, they slap on vague phrases like:

“This isn’t a medicine, it’s just a supplement.”“Semua bahan semula jadi.”“KKM in process.”“Try at your own risk.”

Yeah, no. When you’re carrying life inside you, “try at your own risk” doesn’t quite cut it.

The Real Risks

Let’s break this down like the health class you should’ve had:

  • Unapproved supplements can cause miscarriage, premature labour, or birth defects.

  • They may interact with your prenatal vitamins or medication.

  • Some contain banned substances, steroids, or excessive doses of herbs that affect hormone levels.

  • Most of the “beauty pregnancy kits” are full of lies, sugar, and shady ingredients.

You know who won’t be there when you face complications? The seller. The influencer. The glowing testimonial page.

Repeat After Me: "Influencers Are Not Medical Experts"

Yes, some are genuinely well-meaning. Some are actual mamas just sharing what worked for them. But most? They’re just selling.

They use:

  • Titles like “Founder,” “Coach,” or “Certified” (by who?)

  • White lab coats in videos for extra ‘legitimacy’

  • Fear-mongering terms like “womb toxins,” “hormonal imbalance,” or “rahim kotor”

Newsflash: Your womb isn’t dirty.Your hormones aren’t broken. And no, you don’t need collagen drinks to have a "cute baby.

So, What Can You Actually Do?

You don’t have to live in fear, just in facts.

Check the KKM NPRA database (https://www.npra.gov.my) before taking

any product.

✅ Ask your OB-GYN before buying anything with the words “beauty,” “detox,” or “fertility booster.”

✅ Don’t fall for peer pressure in parenting groups, or the guilt-trippy line:

“Sayang anak? Invest la sikit.”

Real investment? Prenatal checkups, nutritious food, and actual rest. Not uterus-flavoured lollipops from a Lazada live session.

To the Sellers: Do Better

If you’re profiting off worried mothers and marketing products that aren’t approved or tested, you’re part of the problem. We don’t care if you made RM50k in sales last month. You’re risking lives for clicks.

To those who put “KKM not approved but banyak testimoni” on your site—you should be ashamed.

Final Word for Parents

You don’t need TikTok to approve your motherhood. You need reliable info, professional care, and your own damn instincts.

So next time someone says, “This pill will make your womb fertile like a kampung chicken,”just smile and say,

“Thanks. I’ll stick with science.”

Footnote: Be careful when you see advertisements saying "This supplement can make your kid 180 cm taller", " This supplement can make your kid smarter", "This supplement can make your kid talk faster", "This supplement increases your kid's appetite" and so on.
